Fukushima was once a beautiful region. But since the March 11, 2011 disaster, it's become known as the Nuclear Disaster Zone. Six years later, over 80,000 residents still can't return to their homes or their lives. How have they endured? Reconstruction is slow, and many people around the nuclear site remain displaced, unable to return. In the streets, residents are taking matters into their own hands to rebuild their communities. Psychologically and practically, how do you rebuild? Is this self-rescue effort about recovering what was lost, or creating something new? What does "revival" mean to them? What does "rebirth" signify? We traveled throughout Fukushima's coastal areas, recording the stories of residents as they find their own paths to recovery.
