Description:
For 22 years, this documentary film observes a nine-member family in the Goto Islands, Nagasaki prefecture, as they produce traditional Udon noodles and natural salt. Mr. Toru Inuzuka, nicknamed "Tora-san," is the maker of the island's famous Udon. On an island facing declining population, seven of his children help with the demanding work, rising at 5 AM each day to make udon before attending school. Their hours are tracked on time cards, providing them with pocket money. The film chronicles the family’s journey through the children’s growth, their marriages, births of their own children, return to the island, and eventual departures, capturing two decades of shared life.
