Description:
Young Edmond Dantès, a sailor from Marseille, is unjustly imprisoned in the Chateau d'If, a notorious state prison. Despite his pleas of innocence, the guards mock and torment him before isolating him in solitary confinement. Just hours before his arrest, Dantès returned to Marseille from a sea voyage and was joyfully reunited with his fiancée, Mercédès. Her father, Pierre Morrel, had celebrated their union by promoting Dantès to captain. But the celebration is shattered when soldiers arrive to arrest him. Dantès insists he has committed no crime and promises Mercédès he will return quickly.
