Description:
*The Midnight Special* was a late-night musical variety show on NBC, created by Burt Sugarman, that ran from 1972 to 1981. It aired after *The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson* and typically featured guest hosts. From 1975 to 1976, singer Helen Reddy was the regular host, with Wolfman Jack as announcer and frequent guest. The show occasionally included vintage footage and comedic acts like Richard Pryor and Andy Kaufman. As the 1980s began, *The Midnight Special* increasingly used pre-recorded performances.
