An elderly German is found hanged in a B&B room and the inspectors of the X Tuscolanoo start an investigation challenging the hypothesis of an apparent suicide. The revelation of his youthful membership in the German army will lead them to the discovery of ancient partisan grudges that have never been quelled.

The District inspectors are engaged in the case of the kidnapping of an eighteen-year-old girl, who according to her father's testimony would have staged a false kidnapping to obtain money from him. The hypothesis is denied by the discovery that the girl is dead and her body lies inside the trunk of the car in the open countryside.
