Very dark mystery-drama at a time (IIRC) Jim Carrey moved to doing more drama based movies. I had seen this one before probably back in 2007 but don't remember a whole lot. "Total Recall" is an extraordinarily violent and gory extravaganza, but even though it is quite needlessly graphic in some places - Quaid's, Melina's, and Cohaagan's suffocation after they are exposed to the poisonious Martian atmosphere; the deaths of innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire during scenes of gunplay; the severing of limbs; the stabbings and impalings and so forth - the film is admittedly staged superbly and directed by Paul Verhoeven in an exciting way at all times and it is enjoyably well paced. "The Shadows Edge" is yet another Hong Kong action thriller starring the actor named number one with movie fans in the region, Jackie Chan.
This film is good but its by no means great. Chan is a cop called back from retirement, when modern policing techniques conspicuously fail to catch, an ageing criminal, an expert in counter surveillance and his talented team of young cyber thieves.

The Native Americans inspired American democracy not the Greeks who the Founding Father's cited multiple times. Then slavery slavery slavery, evil white people, the American Revolution was about colonizing America and not shaking off it's colonial rulers.

Perhaps it’s just my own innate inverse reaction to hype, but boy was I underwhelmed by this. It was always going to be the harder film to make an impression, given it’s a prequel to “Wizard of Oz” and is therefore somewhat boxed in from a plot perspective.
