Although he does well enough here, I couldn’t ever get the vision of Michael Palin as a sort of “Ripping Yarns” character throughout this pretty weak vehicle for himself and Maggie Smith. Honest to god, fucking awful. I really wanted to watch this all the way through and give it a fair review but it's just so bad, I couldn't bear it. Not one single pair of actors in this movie has chemistry with one another, the script is horrendous, Justin Long was acting in a western while everyone else was in Hallmark, whoever styled Brittany Snow is going to hell and most of the sex jokes in the 46 minutes I watched landed as well as sexual harassment can. I’m done watching all this excessive male on female violence. Why is that the only way we can really understand if someone is a bad person? France 1918, 78 feet underground is where our story begins for our characters and their introduction to the scene. Now, we have tasty visual effects happening, and this promises to be visually appealing. The realization of what they've gotten themselves into is coming to light, and it's rather unpleasant and beautifully hideous. "The Alto Knights" is a highly recommended and worthwhile film and the most surprising thing of all is how bloodless the finale is. This is a good thing since it allows the film to be rounded off in the most unorthodox way imaginable. 67/100 A word of advice ...if you find 2 sleeping vampires, and you plan on driving a stake through their hearts, do Dracula first. This was a fun piece of nostalgia that was new to me. Even at my age, I've never watched the Hammer Dracula films. Christopher Lee, projecting an extreme level of dark and dangerous passion, and Peter Cushing, a no-nonsense avenger bent on ridding the world of vampires, are both exceptional.
