Much as I did quite enjoy this, I think it ought really to have been called “Adorable Me” as “Gru” really hasn’t much despicable going on throughout. Indeed, when he is recruited by “Anti-Villain League” to become poacher-cum-gamekeeper, he is the epitome of the family man with the three kids, his army of giggling Minions and even an hint of romance on the horizon with agent “Lucy”. Is it just me, or is this just a fairly straightforward remake of “Tobruk” (1967)? Instead of Rock we have Richard, Burton, as he sets off deep behind enemy lines in North Africa to destroy a fuel dump that is going to help mobilise a couple of Panzer divisions for Rommel. Simu Liu cannot act his way out of a paper bag. He should never been put into the position of a lead role. He is a "charisma vacuum" and Peacock needs to fire the cast dept for this entire show. I cannot believe how atrocious the acting is. I bet everyone on the set of the show were embarrassed. The producers, the directors, the actors all obviously know they are putting out SLOP. The plot and the story are pretty basic and simple-minded too. Who is actually hiring these writers? And who is running Peacock right now? It seems like all they put out is garbage, over and over.
