The V/H/S franchise of films are often fun, often in bad taste but typically don't cross the line into ugly and cruel, until now. The latest iteration to my mind, goes too far depicting the actions of a child serial killer, in a manner that I found troubling and deeply off putting. Or put another way, downright awful. Postpartum depression is a subject that, arguably, doesn’t receive enough attention, especially outside of a clinical context. "The Monkey" is by turns amusing, startling, unexpectedly humorous and unashamedly great fun. It will leave you in a head spinning state of comical disbelief at what you have just witnessed. It is superb how it effortlessly wrecks all manner of havoc and becomes increasingly bizarre and undeniably gross every time the creepy looking cursed monkey toy starts playing its drum. Innocent enough intro, except for the prank by one of our quite young characters. We have a small family setting out for an adventure, and then we have a horrible tragedy for the family. We have Dee Walace portraying our mother in the family now, and they actually seem rather odd now. Dee's performance is heartbreaking, and our antagonistic character appears to be falling apart in his own mind. Parachute is intimate. Not only because it is inspired by, or based on real life experience, but because knowing that opens a window into just how personal this work is to its creator. Brittany Snow often says she wears her heart on her sleeve, I'd say her work behind the camera is clear proof of her openness beyond the rawness of tearful or stripping performances in front of them. _The Copenhagen Test_ is _Kingsman_ but serious, if it met _The Truman Show_ but worse. Espionage is in itself a tough choice for a dramatic thriller, as the nature of the always levelheaded, astute spy archetype doesn't lend itself into actually dramatic and compelling performances, which is precisely the problem in a series that takes itself too seriously.
