I'm not sure how this movie can get such great reviews. The acting isn't particularly good, and the plot is about as deep as a beer can. It might be okay to watch once, but it's not really good.…

51/100 A indie filmmaker and his wife stay in a 'haunted' house in hopes of making a ghost documentary. Presented in a 'found footage' style, it wasn't bad overall. My biggest issue was the 2 principals ...I didn't particularly like them and rather than behave like a married couple, they acted more like they didn't like each other much. Between having to spend time with them and the wait for something to happen, even the short run time felt quite long. This was definitely a film of two halves for me, and I much preferred the first. From the opening few minutes with a lively performance from a Korean hybrid of the Fab Four and the Rolling Stones we shift down to the waterside where me meet a gent (Oh Kwang-roc) setting up for some night fishing. A farming couple awaken each morning to the cacophony of sounds from their barn next door. It’s a routine they are used to as they let the sheep out, feed the chickens and then try to waken their sleepy giant shepherd on the hillside opposite. Eventually he does arrive and that’s just as well because there’s a peckish bear on the hunt for a woolly snack. Next day, things start to take turns for the more unusual. Firstly, a group of tourists arrive to camp nearby, then their water supply runs dry before finally a group of fox hunters turn up intent on killing everything the can point their guns…

Hmmm…. So a young lad (Nicholas Bakoulos-Cooke) is travelling with his dad (Steve Rodgers) to spend some time with his girlfriend “Scarlett” (Sacha Horler). In tow, in their trailer, is a calf. At it’s heart, this has points to make about local democracy, consultation and perhaps even some culturally motivated tensions too. Sadly though, the execution is all too messy to really work. We start with a scenario that’s obviously meant to introduce us to teacher “Niklas” (Kristoffer Appelquist) but that is undercooked, then we meet “Karin” (Cecilia Milocco) who is having some sort of difficulty with her teenage son but again, we know no more before being taken to a town meeting where she must address the disgruntled local residents who are concerned about plans to place immigrant children…

Though he might not much like the compliment, Bruno Ganz is superb as the Führer in this dramatisation of his last few days in Berlin. If you saw George Schaefer’s attempt at this, with Anthony Hopkins in the title role (1981) then you’ll already have the gist of what occurs, but this has an altogether less dramatic, more natural, feel to it.
