If you're British (or Japanese) you might remember Clive James used to showcase a television series called "Endurance" where folks underwent ostensibly painful stunts for the amusement of the audience. That was funny when I was a teenager and it was the 1980s. Now, almost fifty years later, this sort of frankly quite puerile humour just doesn't work for me as a collection of enthusiastic fifty-something's try to flog this very dead horse. Fifties Professionals is a case of a good idea that's poorly executed. The comedic tone of this series is at odds with its serious action orientation. It also seems to send the rather odious message that anyone in their fifties is over the hill, a figure of ridicule and fun. Limited upsides include decent acting and action, but the handling is so off it hardly matters. In summary, a great idea ruined by dismal handling. A wholly mediocre watch, not to mention rather disrespectful to older viewers.…

In spite of decent acting, the premise and script for this series failed to inspire me. Overly long-winded, focusing on the thoroughly unlikable character of a cynical, entitled businessman, I found little to engage with here. Comedic aspects feel forced too and are either cheesy or decidedly slapstick. A mediocre watch, even if you like this series about people switching identities. A marginal 6/10 from me.…

What's to say?? Those dreaded words comes to mind when taking in the entirity of this series born in Woke-tivity's infancy, and dying in the miasma of Woke's waves. This is certainly one interpretation. It absolutely is not the best interpretation of this work. While it captures the corruption of the pigs, it does nothing to further the actual ideas presented in the original work. And I don't think that was accidental. It's a shame that a story which is so important gets mismanaged in its popular representation, so that a new generation that watches it does not understand why it is so important.…

This is genuinely unsettling. It's a lovely premise and it is well executed. It is creepy and unsettling and weird. It's the things you want out of this kind of horror and this movie pulls it off well. The cast is superb, the direction is great, the use of this concept and its associated effects is executed flawlessly. For what this is, it is just great.…

It's interesting that Scream 7 came out the same year as this movie. Both are very tired franchises that have been retreading the same ground for a long time. However, Scream 7 still manages to be engaging, at least up to a point. This movie does not manage to be funny. A horror movie has to be scary, and Scream manages that adequately. A comedy has to be funny, and scary movie does not attain that. These are jokes meant for an earlier audience that try to be offensive in the same way that worked more than two decades ago. You can hide a lot in the dark. There have been several movies about tour boats getting stranded and its tourist complement getting eaten by local wildlife. There are sharks, there are piranhas, there are alligators, there are even frankenfish. This movie has a hippo. That's novel. It's very cute. Dare I say, this was more entertaining than that awful Monster Hunter live-action movie, and most of the Jurassic movies. There are, of course, some really stupid moments, like Keyes not remembering that when the little murder turkeys run away, it means a bigger murder turkey is lurking, but hot dayum, the reveal of big murder turkey was gruesomly awesome, and the two giant murder turkeys tearing !@#$ up at the end was just the best a dinosaur lover could ask for.
