The therapeutic powers of tea are illustrated quite delicately here as “Emily” dunks her biscuit into her cuppa. It breaks and as she watches it slowly dissolve into the water, it's gentle swirling reminds her of days from her childhood. She is clearly a lady who is struggling with her present memories, and her daughter “Kate” is helping pack her possessions as it looks like she isn’t as capable of looking after herself as once she could. This is another animated feature where the location and personalities themselves matter much less than the underlying philosophy. It presents a series of often quite emotionally-charged stories as seen through the eyes of a lad who come rain or shine leaves his mother’s home on a Friday night, gets into his dad’s car, and then they have some weekend adventures. Some of those are exciting, some more mundane, whilst meantime we learn a little of the ups and downs of the familial backstory that led us to this point. “Luna” fancies herself as a bit of an astronaut, but what are her chances? She is still at school and lives with her dad who cobbles to keep them going. As she grows up, we see her become a little more introverted and less connected with her father until one fateful day she arrives home from college to find an empty chair awaiting her. There are two really impressive and emotionally-charged performances from Ely Solan and Leon Hughes here but the rest of the feature seems uncomfortably prurient. It was huge news in the UK in 1993 when toddler James Bulger was abducted and murdered by two older children, so this dramatisation is bound to touch nerves as it uses selected transcripts from their police interviews to map out just what happened on that day. Sadly for “Man-su” (Lee Byung-hun) being pulp man of the year doesn’t guarantee your future in the paper industry, and when modernisation costs him his job he has to find another one. With a house, his wife, two children and two dogs to keep he can’t be out of work for long, but he quickly realises that nobody needs his skills anymore. I was positively surprised by this one. I'm not a fan of the high-pitched Chipmunks and Chipettes music, but I grew up with the cartoon show and, yes, I like the live action movies because all six + Dave always have quite likable personalities. And that's the same in this movie. If you like the 1983 show, this is a perfectly fitting movie to it with the characters actually engaging in a quite serious adventure including criminals, smuggling and kidnapping. The plot isn't crazy special, and certainly off to an unrealistic start, but hey, if you wanna see the girls and boys …

Was interesting and special effects were good but all comes down to story and they lost the plot at the end, sorry. Didn't make sense they seemed like they had a good idea and wanted to make a horror out of it when the obvious ending would have worked out better. Nice try!…

I don’t know about you, but if I’d been stuck out in the wilderness on my own for six years, believing myself to be the last man on earth, I’m not too sure I’d care if the next person I met was man, woman or vegetable when it came to a desire for sex.
