Waikiki (1980)

A failed pilot for a detective series follows two private investigators from different worlds as they team up to hunt a killer known as the "Cane Field Murderer" on the Hawaiian Islands. One is a relaxed Californian whose peaceful life is shattered by the brutal murders. The other is a sharp-witted New Yorker used to the harsh realities of city crime, whose tough methods contrast with the local detective's easygoing approach. They explore the island's hidden side, using their distinct skills to follow the killer's path amidst beautiful scenery. As they investigate, they confront not only the victims' need for justice but also their own inner struggles, realizing that morality is more complex than they thought. Though the series didn't get made, this pilot offers a compelling look at a detective team struggling to reconcile their differing views on crime and punishment while trying to stop "The Cane Field Murderer" before more lives are lost.
