Description:
In 1964, Eduardo Coutinho started filming in northeastern Brazil, unknowingly capturing the beginning of the military coup that would later interrupt his work. Returning in 1981, he resumed documenting the lives impacted by the coup and the following social changes. He reconnected with a family whose father was murdered for defending rural communities. Through his film, Coutinho portrays their fight to cope with their loss and the wider effects of political violence on individuals and the country's memory. The film is a powerful look at grief, memory, and strength amidst turmoil and tragedy.
