The Sundowners (1960)

In the Australian Outback, the Carmody family – Paddy, Ida, and their son Sean – journey across the hills seeking new grazing land for their sheep. The demanding landscape tests them physically and emotionally, causing Ida and Sean to question their nomadic life. Their travels bring a mix of experiences: a competitive sheep-shearing contest fosters rivalry and friendship among the drovers, while the birth of a child offers a glimpse of hope. Evenings are spent drinking and gambling, interspersed with moments of reflection as the family grapples with differing desires. The arrival of a racehorse further complicates their situation. The Carmodys face a crucial decision: will Paddy choose to settle down with his family, or will he prioritize his freedom?
