This adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Pit and the Pendulum" and Auguste Villiers de l'Isle-Adam's "A Torture by Hope" explores a world of intense despair and psychological torment. The film is set in 17th-century France and follows a character trapped in a labyrinth of mental terror. Confined to a cell with instruments of torture, the protagonist faces imminent doom as a pendulum swings overhead. They are also tormented by the loss of hope, as their captors manipulate their mind and blur the line between reality and illusion. The film suggests that the most agonizing torments can be self-inflicted. This short film combines elements from two literary classics, offering a new perspective on these disturbing stories and examining the darker side of human nature.
