The Nest (1980)

In a small Spanish town near Salamanca, a lonely widower named Alejandro finds his quiet life disrupted by the arrival of Gregoria, or Goyita, an inquisitive 13-year-old girl. Alejandro, 60, who enjoys music, chess, and hunting, forms an unexpected friendship with the precocious girl, daughter of a weak policeman and a controlling wife. Goyita, passionate about nature and determined to get what she wants, actively seeks out Alejandro's company. Despite local disapproval, they spend time together, enjoying walks, horseback rides, and meals. As their friendship grows, Alejandro tells the village priest he feels truly alive again. However, Goyita’s increasing reliance on Alejandro prompts him to question his own beliefs and the nature of their unique, intensely platonic connection. The film explores themes of companionship, personal development, and staying true to oneself when faced with unforeseen circumstances, through the story of these two unlikely friends.
