Description:
In the late 1950s Soviet Union, aspiring filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky, a student at the State Institute of Cinematography, worked with classmates Marika Beiku and Aleksandr Gordon to adapt Ernest Hemingway's story "The Killers" into a film. This early work reveals Tarkovsky's talent for visual storytelling. The film follows a group of criminals carrying out a planned robbery, but their intentions become complicated when one of them starts to doubt their actions. This student film offers insight into Tarkovsky's artistic development and hints at the career he would later build in cinema.
