The Good Thief (1980)

In Galilee during Jesus' time, Caleb, a clever thief known as "son of nobody," makes a living by pretending to be a magician and tricking villagers. His life changes when he sees Jesus perform a miracle – turning water into wine – and believes this new arrival is a threat to his work. Driven by envy and doubt, Caleb sets out to prove Jesus is a fake. Caleb’s life becomes complicated as he has a relationship with a prostitute and draws the attention of a powerful Roman woman. He uses his skills to steal from and plot against those around him. Along the way, he befriends a stray dog and clashes with Roman soldiers. The film explores Caleb's internal conflict between disbelief and faith, deception and honesty, set against a backdrop of religious change. It’s a story about an ordinary man facing extraordinary events and the complexities of belief during a turbulent time.
