The Golden Thread (1965)

In Calcutta, Ishwar, an honest man living with East Bengali refugees in a shanty town, takes a job at an iron foundry seeking financial stability. This choice creates a moral conflict when an old friend offers a more secure path, straining his relationships within the community he's grown to care for. Ishwar brings his sister Sita and Abhiram, an orphaned boy he's raised, with him. They face difficulties adapting to city life. When Ishwar is accused of abandoning his community and betraying their cause, he must grapple with loyalty, belonging, and his own growth against the backdrop of societal pressures and displacement. The film explores how personal decisions impact others, illustrating that difficult choices can sometimes lead to a better future, despite potential consequences and self-doubt.
