Taylor Chain I offers a realistic look at life during a long strike at a small factory in Indiana during the winter of 1973-74. The documentary honestly shows the heated union meetings, the obvious tension on the picket line, and the difficulties of labor negotiations. Though it powerfully portrays the struggles of workers and their rights, the film wasn't released until 1980 because of money problems and a fire at Kartemquin that required a major re-editing. A year later, a second film, Taylor Chain II: A Story of Collective Bargaining, was made to explore the complexities of union negotiations further.
