Reading Lolita in Tehran (2024)

In Tehran, where morality police conduct random raids and fundamentalists control universities, teacher Azar Nafisi secretly meets with six of her most dedicated female students. They gather in her home to read banned Western literature. Unused to expressing themselves freely, the students begin to shed their veils as they connect with the stories they read. Inspired by heroines from authors like Nabokov, Fitzgerald, James, and Austen, these women dare to dream, hope, and love, mirroring the complexities of individuals navigating political, moral, and personal struggles.
