Picture Business: Michael Powell at Dartmouth (1980)

In June 1980, acclaimed British director Michael Powell became a visiting artist at Dartmouth College, working with the school's students. He undertook a special project: creating a fifteen-minute pilot film adapting Ursula K. Le Guin's popular Earthsea fantasy series. This allowed Powell to explore new filmmaking approaches while giving students a unique opportunity to learn from his experience and collaborate on a project blending their ideas with his expertise. The film is a cinematic take on Le Guin’s story, showcasing both the author's imaginative world-building and the talent of the young filmmakers who brought it to life.
