Night at the Terrace (1980)

"The Letter from Érico" follows three sailors returning to São Paulo after a four-month voyage, each carrying their own experiences. One sailor unexpectedly finds a letter in Porto Alegre and decides to deliver it to its recipient in the city. This simple act unexpectedly connects him with another person's life. When he reaches the apartment building, the sailor is unaware of the turmoil inside. Ms. Cibele Marcondes is contemplating suicide, consumed by despair and loneliness. The sailor’s arrival offers a brief respite; she opens the letter only to find it contains nothing but a blank page. The film examines connection and isolation within São Paulo's urban environment.
