Description:
"Mulholland Dr." began as David Lynch's return to television, based on a script he co-wrote with Joyce Eliason for ABC. Though the network approved the initial script, they declined to air the resulting 94-minute pilot in 1999, even after Lynch adjusted it to their requests. The project stalled until French company Studio Canal Plus, known for "The Straight Story," purchased the pilot for $7 million and invested further to expand it into a two-hour, 27-minute film. The budget later increased to $14 million due to set reconstruction and additional filming. This unusual path to completion illustrates Lynch's commitment to his artistic vision while navigating the challenges of television and film funding.
