Inspired by the Arab tradition of finding meaning in ruins, the five-hundred-year-old image hints at ongoing power struggles rooted in capitalism and colonialism. The film explores the complex connections between pleasure and suffering, attraction and control, historical records and decay, and the intertwined histories of sexuality and empire. It reveals a network of visible and hidden links that seem to connect contemporary homosexuality in the Middle East.
