Description:
On May 20, 2017, 37-year-old cattle farmer Jérôme Laronze was shot and killed by police after a nine-day escape. Laronze, a spokesperson for the Confédération paysanne de Saône-et-Loire, had been protesting government regulations. He was evading health inspections when he was shot while trying to raise awareness about problems in the farming industry. His death shocked a farming community already struggling with a high number of suicides.
