In the Peruvian Andes, textiles are deeply woven into the lives of the indigenous people, representing both practicality and breathtaking artistry developed over generations. These textiles remain a vital part of their identity, but this heritage is increasingly threatened by daily racism and a global market flooded with inexpensive, machine-made alternatives that diminish the value of handmade crafts. The violation of indigenous intellectual property rights further exacerbates the problem. The Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco (CTTC) was founded by weavers and their allies to preserve Cusqueñan textile traditions and support the communities who create them.
