Inside Metal: The Rise of L.A. Thrash Metal (2017)

For decades, the San Francisco Bay Area has been known as the heart of "Thrash Metal," while Los Angeles is typically recognized as the home of "Hair-Metal." While San Francisco produced many notable thrash bands starting in the early 1980s, Los Angeles was actually the birthplace of three of the most important thrash bands and a hub for many unique speed/thrash/punk-metal groups. From legendary acts like METALLICA, SLAYER, and MEGADETH, to punk-metal pioneers SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, and underground thrash favorites DARK ANGEL and HIRAX – regardless of preference – they all originated in Los Angeles.
