Description:
Japanese poet Shuntaro Tanikawa collaborates with Wakako Kaku, a former rock musician, to tell a quiet love story almost entirely through photographs. After helping a man contemplating suicide, an observatory worker shares her cherished phrase, "Yah Chakya!" ("I, Seagull"). The words were once used by the first female cosmonaut and as the call-sign for the Soviet Vostok spacecraft. For her, it's more than a greeting; it's a secret signal and a symbol of the cosmos. Learning the phrase gives the man the strength to keep living.
