Description:
Following General Franco's death, the Leguineche family returns to Madrid after years of self-imposed exile. Their goal is to re-enter Spanish high society and gain favor with the monarchy. The aging Marquis is determined to reconnect with prominent families, hoping to restore his family's lost social standing and former life of courtly elegance. He moves into a palace in the city center, but faces opposition from his wife, who despises him and their son. To take back control of the palace, the Marquis attempts to discredit his wife by claiming she suffers from an incurable mental illness, then proceeds to renovate the palace to suit aristocratic tastes.
