Description:
Scott Daniels, a city engineer who recently relocated from Houston, begins investigating a series of strange fires. His son Jesse, resentful of the move and his father's new life, fakes an illness to bring his new girlfriend, Allison Saunders, to the house. Allison is a reporter and the daughter of Scott’s former high school girlfriend. She discovers Jesse unconscious from fumes, amidst a growing problem of dead rats in the sewers and cracks appearing in buildings. The fires are caused by gas leaks triggered by steam pressure drilling conducted by Talbot Oil. Mayor Walker, prioritizing politics over safety, refuses to order an evacuation despite Scott's warnings. Scott and his friend Kenny Barrows uncover the connection to Talbot, but Fire Chief Patterson, who has long been in league with Talbot, covers up their activities and undermines Scott’s authority.
