Description:
In ancient Thebes, King Oedipus unknowingly commits patricide and incest with his mother, producing two sons, Eteocles and Polyneices, and two daughters, Ismene and Antigone. After blinding himself and going into exile, Oedipus dies. Eteocles agrees to rule Thebes in turns with Polyneices, but refuses to relinquish power after the first year. Polyneices then raises an army to attack Thebes, resulting in a deadly battle between the brothers. Creon, the new ruler, decrees that Eteocles receive a proper burial while Polyneices' body is left to decompose. Antigone defies Creon's decree and buries her brother. As punishment, Creon sentences her to death by being entombed alive. Antigone commits suicide in the tomb, and her fiancé, Haemon, Creon’s son, kills himself in grief after attempting to kill his father.
