Downstream (2008)

For decades, two 70-year-old Swiss women have shared daily walks and conversations. In the summer, their routine includes swimming down the river that runs through their town. As the current carries them along, they reflect on friendship, love, and aging. They consider the prospect of life without a lifelong partner after three decades. They contemplate the difficult question: what would they do if the other were to die? Their lives are deeply intertwined, making it hard to imagine life apart. This moving short documentary follows them literally and figuratively floating down the river of life together.
