Portrait of Altine in the Dry Season (2001)

Altine, a 27-year-old mother of two, lives a traditional life in Northern Senegal. The film follows her daily routines – threshing millet, cooking over an open fire – as she shares her hopes for her family: enough food, good health, and staying with loved ones. Her village, isolated and far from modern conveniences, remains untouched by Western influences. This visually stunning film portrays life during the dry season, a harsh nine-month period where livestock share the dusty landscape and villagers walk long distances for water. Despite the hardships, the people maintain a quiet dignity.
