Description:
Growing up near Basin Street in New Orleans, Jeff plays his clarinet with the dockworkers. He forms a band, the Basin Street Hot-Shots, with cornet player Memphis. They face challenges gaining acceptance for their jazz from the city's established cafe society. Betty Lou joins the band as a singer and learns scat singing from Louie. Both Memphis and Jeff develop feelings for Betty Lou.
