Benjamin and His Brother (2002)

Decades of war and ethnic conflict in Sudan have left a generation of young men, called the "Lost Boys," living in refugee camps for more years than in their own villages. This personal film follows Benjamin and William Deng, brothers enduring a seemingly endless exile together. Their lives diverge when one brother is accepted into a U.S. resettlement program, while the other remains in a Kenyan refugee camp. It's a story about the brothers' hopes versus reality, as well as the war and hardship in their homeland, the loss of childhood, the challenges of refugee life abroad, and the struggle for survival. The reality of adjusting to America, often called the "Land of Dreams," proves difficult.
