The First President (2011)

In 1912, Sun Yat-sen became the provisional president of the NNG. Yuan Shikai, based in Peiping, plotted to force the Qing Dynasty to abdicate and then seized power, becoming president himself. Sun Yat-sen retreated and resumed revolutionary activities in Dongying. Driven by ambition, Song Jiaoren formed a parliament, ran for president, and continued the push for the republic, but was assassinated by Yuan's supporters. Upon hearing this news, Sun rushed back to China and launched a second revolution against Yuan. The revolution ultimately failed, forcing Sun and Huang Xing into exile in Japan. Separated from his allies, Sun faced a bleak outlook for the revolution. It was during this time that Soong Ching Ling entered Sun Yat-sen's life, witnessing firsthand the life of the man tirelessly striving for his country's future.
