Description:
Director Tang documents the birth and childhood of his son alongside his father's recovery from a stroke and a visit to his ancestral home in China. His father had evacuated to Taiwan with Nationalist troops after losing mainland China to the Communists in the war, and travel back was not permitted until the 1980s. Through intimate observation, Tang explores the connections between his own life and the experiences of others across time, beginning with his search for the earliest memory of life. Building on his previous film, "HOW DEEP IS THE OCEAN," which ended with an ultrasound image, this documentary, "HOW HIGH IS THE MOUNTAIN," initiates a series of questions about life and continues Tang's personal reflection on longing for a better world.
