Goats & Sheep (2001)

"Goats and Sheep" adapts the 1995 installation "Withershins," which features two simultaneous views of a person signing: one focusing on the hands and arms, and the other capturing the back of the head and shoulders, revealing the hands' movements as they relate to the head. For this work, the artist converted the color image to black-and-white, re-recorded his voice, and synchronized it with the original signing. The stereo sound uses a delayed vocal doubling, approximately one second behind the original, echoing the repetitive motions and references within the signed text.
