Description:
Charlotte marries Albert out of obligation, but secretly loves Werther, a feeling she denies even to herself and him. Despairing over her rejection, Werther is unable to experience the love Charlotte eventually confesses. This production of Jules Massenet's opera *Werther*, based on Goethe's novel, features a refined staging by Bruno Ravella, known for his recent *Rosenkavalier* production. Opéra Orchestre National Montpellier Occitanie presents Canadian contralto Marie-Nicole Lemieux as Charlotte, alongside a predominantly French-speaking, young cast, conducted by Jean-Marie Zietouni.
