White Fish (1953)

A family – a father who is a doctor with his own clinic, his wife, and their only son – faces separation when the father is called to war. His wife and son are left in agonizing uncertainty about his fate. With the clinic idle, the doctor's wife rents it to his assistant, a man known for refusing payment from those in need. The wife works at a restaurant where the ill owner leaves her with extra responsibilities. Meanwhile, her younger sister, an unmarried finance writer who lives with them, begins receiving marriage proposals.
