Nestled in the mountains of Northern New Mexico is Los Alamos, the site where the Atomic Age began with the Manhattan Project. Here, Robert J. Oppenheimer and his team developed the first atomic bomb, "Trinity," a scientific model for the weapons known as "Little Boy" and "Fat Man." These bombs brought World War II to a swift conclusion by devastating Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Today, the laboratory is also a major center for genetic research, but it remains shrouded in secrecy. Its primary mission – maintaining the nation's nuclear weapons – is known as "Stockpile Stewardship."
