Description:
Forty years after leaving, Dr. Bhaskar, a Magsaysay Award winner, returns to his village with his doctor son and American daughter-in-law. Standing before the ruins of his family estate, he recalls the pivotal year before he began medical school. It wasn't his father, a Gandhian freedom fighter, his uncle, or his elder brother who inspired him to become a doctor – it was his mother, who believed it was the only way to honor the family's ancestral spirit. Bhaskar owes a debt to Krishnatai, his brother’s lower-caste lover, who understood and supported his mother's vision. He has returned home now to fulfill his mother's wish.
