Description:
Mobster Asiong Salonga (ER Ejercito) dominates Manila's underworld until a trusted friend betrays him. *Manila Kingpin* draws from the true story of Nicasio “Asiong” Salonga, a notorious gang leader from Tondo, Manila, who has been the subject of multiple films since 1961 (including one starring Joseph Estrada). It's also the first major Filipino film produced in black-and-white in the 21st century and a return to the action genre. Prior to its release, director Tikoy Aguiluz requested the removal of his directorial credits and promotional materials due to significant reediting, reshooting, and music mixing by the producers, which he felt altered the film beyond recognition. He also sought permission to create his own director's cut.
