According to Nathan Frank, the film's camera, lighting, and sound engineer, Trevor was deeply affected by a difficult alternative theater performance. Inspired to confront his own pain, he recreated the experience in a basement setting. Stripped of its theatrical context and fueled by cheap vodka, the performance becomes raw and intensely sad, desperate, and undeniably real.
