Nine Years Later (“Panic”)-Remix (2001)

Nine Years Later is a three-part series where Beck revisits video performances he made about nine years ago, set to music by The Smiths. He shows the work behind the scenes by editing the videos with rehearsals, including the often self-critical and intense moments they involved. Using text on the screen and narration, Beck explains how he made the videos, using the technology he had at the time. This reveals how our bodies simply experience technology. In the videos, Beck portrays characters like a vengeful martyr, a suicidal loner, and a comatose drag queen, vividly bringing out the aggression and bitterness in Morrissey's songs.
