Description:
Didar is a poet struggling to make a living from his work. He writes in the early mornings before his job as a newspaper editor. He feels a growing sense of unease, stemming from both financial difficulties and conversations at work about the decline of Kazakh culture, disappearing languages, and the increasing power of English. Didar questions whether poetry has any place in the modern world, but finds comfort in thinking about a defiant 19th-century poet, Makhambet Otemisuly.
