Berlin's annual New Year's Eve Concert is a major event for classical music lovers worldwide. Each New Year's Eve, the Berlin Philharmonic presents a special gala with an outstanding soloist, celebrating the end of the year and the arrival of the new one. The 2004 concert was led by Simon Rattle and featured Sally Matthews (soprano), Lawrence Brownlee (tenor), Christian Gerhaher (baritone), the Berlin Radio Choir, and the Boys' Choir of the Berlin State Opera and Cathedral Choir. The program included Ludwig van Beethoven's "Leonore" Overture and Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana."
