Potosi: The Journey (2006)

In 1970, Ron and Jacqueline honeymooned in Buenos Aires before heading to the Andes with backpacks and cameras. Crossing Bolivia on their way to Cuzco, they stumbled upon the city of Potosi. Twenty-nine years later, they return with their three daughters and a Super 16 camera. This road movie documents Potosi and the Andes in real time while also serving as an introspective journey for Ron Havilio and his family. Once one of the world's wealthiest cities, Potosi was for many indigenous people a place of immense suffering due to forced labor in its mines. Abandoned after the silver mines ran out, Potosi became impoverished and forgotten. Like his previous film, Fragments - Jerusalem, Ron Havilio uses personal footage to explore a family's dynamics, generational differences, and the experience of time passing.
